Take a moment to think big. Not just big — huge! This is your chance to dream of what you could and would do with an unthinkable sum of money in the bank. Work is optional, and you are free to do what you are most passionate about. Take a few moments and imagine what you would do.
What would you do with your time? Would you work doing what you love? Would you travel? Would you buy some nice stuff? Would you move? Would you give away to good causes? Would you invest it and make it grow?
You need to think about it. You need to get excited about what you would do with money. Here’s why.
If you don’t have a giant dream pulling you up, you will never leave the gravity of the here and now.
You will only think as far as the next vacation or the car you want to buy. You will limit yourself to a bigger home or paying off your debts. You will say you would never work again — but you have not said what you would do instead. You will talk about giving away some money for your friends, the church, the cause you believe in, and the poor people in your area.
This is a good start, but even these thoughts are limiting. Think even bigger. Think of a vision which gives you chills and freaks you out. If it doesn’t scare you, it isn’t big enough.
Think about how many lives would be changed by a series of good decisions and actions involving money. Think about the impact this would have on children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Think about creating a system which continues to bless people long after you are gone.
Think epic.
Otherwise, without the intrinsic motivation which comes from something so big you can barely understand it all, you will continue to live in the short term. The land ruled by impulse, desire, and impatience. The small picture.
Looking just two steps ahead, when you could be gazing miles out.
Write down your vision. Do you have the self discipline to make the hard decisions now? Are you determined to make this dream a reality?
