Everyone is a Slave to Something

Are you a slave to any one of these — worry, money, stuff, or anger?

Do you have a problem with control, work, sex, or alcohol?

Are you addicted to sugar, caffeine, Facebook, or people-pleasing?

Some of you read that and thought, “I’m not a slave to any of those things. I’m my own person.” That may very well be true.

Or it might just mean you are a slave to self.

Yes, that counts too. When you are a slave to self, you are at the whim of your every desire. You are unable to avoid gratifying your need for “happyness” — however short term.

There’s no way around it. It seems we are wired to make something our master, making us its slave.

But you’re not buying it. You might be thinking, “This is crap. I’m not a slave.”

Really?

If you obey something, anything at all, what does that make you? And what does that make the thing you obey?

Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Read about it for yourself.

Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey….
— Romans 6:16

Whether it’s pornography or control or success — you are a slave of the one you obey.

Hmmm.

What are you obeying? Think it over and share your thoughts in a comment.

If you have to pick something, what should your master be?
